There are two ways of working with data from an SQL server:
- Import data using SQL Data option
In Foxtrot data can be imported from a SQL server with ease. Simply click the Data - SQL button in the Add panel.
Please note: This feature is only visible in Expert Mode. So make sure you have one:
Importing data from a SQL server requires certain settings to be configured. Foxtrot will require you to know:
- The Server name
- The Connection Port
- Type of authentication (SQL or Windows) and your credentials (username and password) for SQL authentication
After pressing Connect you will see the list of databases and the list of corresponding tables/views:
After choosing the table/view, a new window will show fields information:
Queries to databases can be also sent directly from Foxtrot. Just choose SQL in the Record field and type your query.
Please note that you have to provide a full name to the table. Also, if the table name/field name contains spaces – you have to put it in square brackets.
Then Foxtrot will save the extracted data to an MS Access database. You should provide the name and the path to it.
Now Foxtrot has imported the data and can process it effectively using Data Actions.
